\begingroup$ I know this post is 9 years old, but an additional detail: The scale matrix can be decomposed into shears and a diagonal, I think. You do the LU decomposition of S, and try to be a little more general and go for an "LUD" decomposition (ie. lower/upper/diagonal) (hard to find anything online on an LUD decomp). Inlecture, I will demonstrate these solutions in MATLAB using the matrix \(A=[-2,2,-1 ; 6,-6,7 ; 3,-8,4] ;\) which is the example in the notes. See the note in its documentation (reproduced below): It is no longer recommended to use this class, even for linear algebra. Instead use regular arrays. Matrixaddition can only be performed on matrices of the same size. This means that you can only add matrices if both matrices are m × n. For example, you can add two or more 3 × 3, 1 × 2, or 5 × 4 matrices. You cannot add a 2 × 3 and a 3 × 2 matrix, a 4 × 4 and a 3 × 3, etc. Canyou add a 2x2 and a 2x3 matrix - In order words, you can add or subtract a 2x3 with a 2x3 or a 3x3 with a 3x3. However, you cannot add a 3x2 with a 2x3 or Math Formulas 5vsel1.

can you add a 2x2 and a 2x3 matrix
